Rajasthan Royals are all set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 42nd group-stage match of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The much-awaited face-off will be played at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

In a massive setback for Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson hasn't travelled to Bengaluru to participate in this match. As stated by the Royals, Samson has yet to recover from the side injury he sustained during the IPL game against Delhi Capitals. 

In his absence, Riyan Parag will lead RR against RCB tonight. As two spirited teams are set to clash, let's analyse how Parag's captaincy can impact the encounter.

As shown in the above table, Riyan Parag has led RR in four IPL matches. As Samson's finger injury forced him to play purely as a batter, Parag captained the inaugural champions in the first three matches this season. 

Furthermore, he also donned the skipper's hat against LSG after the side injury sidelined Samson from the encounter. 

However, Parag has yet to make his mark as captain, having led RR to three defeats in four outings. Thus, overall, his performance as an IPL captain hasn't been satisfactory. 

With Parag being their captain, RR have won one out of two home games, while losing both their away fixtures. 

From Samson To Parag; How Could The Leadership Change Affect RR?

Sanju Samson's untimely injury has certainly emerged as a huge setback for the Royals. While it has left them with a vulnerable top-order, which is slightly over-reliant on Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Royals will also miss Samson's leadership acumen in the must-win game against RCB. 

Hailed for his tactical genius, Samson led RR to the IPL final in the 2022 edition. Overall, he has captained RR in 65 matches, winning 32 of them. These numbers suggest his expertise as a skipper, as he has impressed masses with his bold tactics and clever on-field decisions. 

It's worth mentioning that Riyan Parag has yet to record a win on away soil in IPL 2025. Thus, filling Samson's giant shoes could be a huge challenge for Parag, who has an experience of only four matches as the captain.
