Rishabh Pant has made a memorable comeback in international cricket, not only contributing significantly with the bat but also excelling with the gloves.

In India’s first Super-8 match against Afghanistan, Pant didn't shine with the bat but was outstanding behind the stumps. The 23-year-old took three crucial catches, dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Gulbadin Naib, and Naveen ul Haq, bringing his total catches to ten in this edition of the T20 World Cup.

This achievement set a new record for most dismissals in a single T20 World Cup edition, surpassing the likes of AB de Villiers, Adam Gilchrist, and Kumar Sangakkara, who each had nine dismissals. Pant’s idol, the legendary MS Dhoni, holds the overall record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 World Cups, with 32 dismissals.

This is Pant’s second T20 World Cup as a regular for Team India. He played in all of India’s matches in the 2021 edition, but the team was knocked out in the group stages. In 2022, Dinesh Karthik was preferred as the first-choice wicket=keeper for the tournament in Australia.

Making a comeback to the international arena after a long hiatus, Pant has also been impressive with the bat in the ongoing tournament, leading India’s batting charts with 116 runs from four innings. He boasts an impressive average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 131.81.

In the first match, Pant scored an unbeaten 36 off 26 balls against Ireland, followed by a crucial 42 off 21 against arch-rivals Pakistan. Though he failed in his next two innings, his exceptional performance behind the stumps has been noteworthy.

Pant's dual contributions, both with the bat and the gloves, have played a significant role in India's success in the tournament so far.
