Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was removed as the captain of Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 season. The franchise reacquired Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans in a record trade and named him the new captain.

Although Rohit did not publicly express any discontent, there were speculations that he was unhappy with the decision. Amit Mishra, a spinner for Lucknow Super Giants and a close friend of Rohit, confirmed these rumors.

In an exclusive interview with renowned media personality Shubhankar Mishra, Amit Mishra revealed that he had met Rohit twice during this year’s IPL and had conversations with him.

The veteran leg-spinner shared that Rohit was indeed unhappy during the tournament. Mishra also criticized the Mumbai Indians' management for overlooking Rohit's achievements as captain.

“I will not say that Rohit Sharma was happy in IPL. I will say that Rohit Sharma was not happy. That is what I felt. Although he did not show to anyone, but when a person has won you 5 trophies, then I would say that you should have brought Hardik but made him the vice-captain. First make him the vice-captain for one year and then give him the captaincy,” said Amit Mishra on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube Channel.

“You should have made things clear to Rohit Sharma that this year you are the captain but from next year Hardik Pandya will captain. Rohit Sharma was completely disappointed with this thing, because he is a very emotional person,” he added.

With a mega-auction set to take place before IPL 2025, fans are eagerly anticipating an update on Rohit Sharma's future with Mumbai Indians by the end of the year.

The decision on whether Rohit will part ways with the franchise or remain will be made by him and will be announced before the BCCI's deadline for franchises to submit their list of retained players.
