Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has stirred controversy by choosing not to comment on Sunil Narine’s bowling action despite his success in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

In this 17th season, bowlers are struggling to contain batters, with scores of 200 becoming commonplace. Amidst this challenge, Jasprit Bumrah and Narine have stood out as exceptional bowlers, leading the race for the Purple Cap with economies of less than 7. 

Bumrah leads with 17 dismissals in 11 games, while Narine follows closely with 13 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 6.72.

Furthermore, Sunil Narine, the spin-bowling all-rounder, has also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 380 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 179.24.

“Bumrah has a really good unique point – He has got a distinct advantage compared to other pacers due to his release point. I won’t talk about Sunil Narine. It’s wrong according to my policy. Narine was also getting hit 2-3 seasons ago. This season he’s been outstanding. But let’s not get into that topic," said Ravichandran Ashwin on YouTube.

It's interesting to note the differing outcomes for Bumrah and Narine's teams. 

Despite Bumrah's stellar performances, the Mumbai Indians find themselves at the bottom of the table. In contrast, Narine's all-round displays have propelled the Kolkata Knight Riders to the second position.

As for Ashwin, while he has faced challenges with the ball, securing only two wickets in nine games, he remains a vital cog of the Rajasthan Royals. Despite his individual struggles, the Royals lead the IPL 2024 points table, highlighting their collective strength.
