'That Made A Difference...,' Gill Rues Poor Batting After Shambolic Loss To RCB

Following another humiliating defeat in the ongoing IPL 2024 season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill criticised his team's batters for their dismal performance.

After being put into bat by RCB, GT struggled from the start, losing their openers Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill early.

Despite valiant efforts from key players like Shahrukh Khan, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, and Rashid Khan, GT could only muster 147 runs in 19.3 overs.

“I think 170-180 on this wicket would have been a good total. I think how we batted in the powerplay and how we bowled in the powerplay, that made a difference," Gill said.

"We would have an extra bowling option (had we not lost early wickets.) Never easy. It's important for us to start from zero (in the next game), need to move on," he added.

In the second innings, it seemed like the game was almost wrapped up when RCB achieved their highest-ever powerplay score courtesy of a brutal assault from skipper Faf du Plessis. However, they experienced a dramatic collapse, plummeting from 92/0 to 117/6 within just 5 overs.

Some poor shot selections and a sense of panic gripped the supporters at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Yet, as has often been the case for RCB, their go-to man in times of crisis, Dinesh Karthik, steered them to victory without any more setbacks, sealing the win in the 14th over.
