Kolkata Knight Riders' newest recruit, Ajinkya Rahane, is making heads turn in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy with back-to-back half-centuries for Mumbai. The stylish batter's fighting knock couldn't save the domestic giants from registering a defeat against Kerala.

Rahane played a solid 68-run knock against the Sanju Samson-led side off just 35 balls with five fours and four maximums to his name at a strike above 190. The experienced batter played a lone hand to reduce the margin of defeat while chasing Kerala's mammoth target of 235, as they could only muster 191 by the end of it all.

This was the second consecutive brave knock from Ajinkya, who took on Maharashtra in the previous game, managing a brisk 52 from 34 deliveries with support from his skipper Shreyas Iyer, who used his bat effectively to get 72 after his name. This colossal effort was enough for them to defeat the opposition by five wickets.

Rahane Potential Captaincy Candidate For KKR

Trying to make his mark in the shortest format, Rahane was released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the next IPL season but was lucky enough to find his old franchise, KKR, buying him back in the auction for his base price of INR 1.5 Crores.

With IPL-winning skipper Shreyas no longer a part of the side, Rahane would crop up as a potential captaincy option for the defending champions. His numbers have been excellent in this format, and considering his past record as the leader of the side, the right-hander would undoubtedly give tough competition to KKR's most expensive buy, Venkatesh Iyer, for the leadership spot.
