It turned out to be a thrilling second game in the first-ever edition of the Global Super League T20 happening in Guyana, where the English side Hampshire Hawks defeated Bangladesh's Rangpur Riders on the penultimate delivery of the super over after the match finished with scores levelled.
It was a game of unexpected twists and turns. Hampshire, batting first, could only muster 132 runs in their 20 overs, with Zak Chappell taking a fifer. Rangpur, seemingly in a dominant position at 120 for the loss of four wickets, suddenly found themselves in a precarious situation, losing the next four wickets for just eight runs.
In the end, with just seven required for victory, James Fuller delivered a fantastic over and gave away just six runs, and hence, the match ended in a tie.
Rangpur, in the super over, were only able to put 12 runs in their respective six balls, with Hampshire eying victory. Coming into bat, the first ball went for six, however, the following delivery saw the batter getting dismissed.
It eventually boiled down to five runs off two balls when Liam Dawson powerfully slogged the ball to the leg-side boundary for a six, completing the Hampshire victory with one delivery to spare in the super over.
Still in the nascent stage, the GSL will be action-packed for the next week, with games coming thick and fast from Guyana's Providence Stadium.
