Just when everything was going smooth for Virat Kohli, the Indian batter was trapped in a brain-fade moment and decided to throw his wicket in the second innings of the first Test against Bangladesh. He was wrongly given out by the umpire, and Kohli also played a part in it.

The champion batter had an ordinary outing in the first innings, and he was expected to deliver the goods in the second innings. However, Kohli failed to recognise a simple spike and it let to his downfall against Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Kohli wrongly given out by the on-field umpire

Mehidy bowled an off-break and it turned back in sharply to trap Kohli on the front-leg. The India's number 4 was trying to clip it on the leg side, but failed to get the connection as the umpire gave him lbw out. Kohli had a long-discussion with Shubman Gill and wanted to take the DRS, but his batting partner felt there was no edge as Kohli decided to walk back.

However, replays suggested that there was a faint-spike as Kohli tried to flick it on the leg side. Kohli failed to recognise the spike and thus, lost his wicket.

It was a brain-fade moment for Kohli, who by the looks of it wanted to go for the review, but somehow decided against it. Mehidy was ecstatic after the wicket, and so he should be.

Kohli looked in good touch after the loss of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and was looking to take the game away from Bangladesh when Mehidy struck with the wicket.

Kohli’s woeful 2024 continues in ongoing Test

Since the start of 2024, Kohli has been in woeful touch. Barring that special 76 against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final, Kohli hasn’t done much at the international level this year.

In the first innings of the Chennai Test, he chased a sixth stump delivery and was caught behind the stumps, a recurring issue in Kohli’s illustrious career. In the second innings, he looked rock solid, but was trapped in by Mehidy who deceived him with an off-break.
