In a move that has taken the cricketing world by surprise, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has just announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket following the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 set to begin in October. 

The 30-year-old cricketer, known for his explosive batting and exceptional skills behind the stumps, has decided to step away from the 50-over format, marking the end of an era in South African cricket.



De Kock's announcement has come as a shock to many fans and cricket pundits, given his relatively young age and the immense talent he possesses. 

He has been a cornerstone of the South African ODI team for over a decade, making his debut in 2012 and amassing numerous records and accolades during his illustrious career.

Throughout his ODI career, Quinton de Kock has been a consistent run-scorer for South Africa, forming the backbone of their batting lineup.

On a bright note, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has revealed its 15-player roster for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India, with Temba Bavuma retaining his position as the team's regular ODI captain as they seek their maiden World Cup championship.Notably, the squad includes experienced white-ball cricketers such as David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, and Quinton de Kock.

South Africa is set to kick off their World Cup 2023 journey by facing Sri Lanka on October 7th. This opening match will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
