Cricket in India has always been a matter of great pride and passion. Over the years, the nation has witnessed the rise of cricketing legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to name a few.

As we look ahead to the future of Indian cricket, three young talents have set the stage on fire with their exceptional performances in their initial 17 One Day International (ODI) innings - Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.

Shubman Gill (778 runs at a strike rate of 101.70)

The 23-year-old Punjab opener, Shubman Gill, has captured the imagination of cricket enthusiasts with his sublime strokeplay and remarkable consistency. Scoring 778 runs at a scintillating strike rate of 101.70 in his first 17 ODI innings is no mean feat. Gill's ability to find the gaps, rotate strike, and accelerate when required makes him a potential cornerstone of India's batting lineup for years to come.

Although, there has been a lot of concerns and questions regarding his poor-form in ODI cricket, it is worth mentioning that he absolutely dominated this year's T20 IPL-season, while bagging the orange cap for scoring most runs in the entire tournament.

Ishan Kishan (776 runs at a strike rate of 106.74)

Hailing from Jharkhand, the 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan, has injected a fresh burst of energy into India's middle order. His aggressive style of play, combined with a strike rate of 106.74, showcases his fearless approach to batting. Kishan's ability to clear the boundaries and take on the bowlers from the word go has made him a vital asset in the shorter formats.

Needless, to say that after his heroics yesterday against No.1 ODI Team Pakistan in his debut match against them have made us all feel a little more secure of the future of the Indian Cricket Team. His calm and composure, helped India put forward a brave total of 267 runs against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 when every Indian fan had lost their faith. Although, rain played spoilsport and the match didn't take place Ishan's magnificent innings would always be remembered and cherished.

Shreyas Iyer (750 runs at a strike rate of 100.81)

Shreyas Iyer, a 27-year-old middle-order maestro, has shown incredible consistency. Accumulating 750 runs in his first 17 ODI innings at a strike rate of 100.81, Iyer is a perfect blend of classical strokes and innovative shot-making. His ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed adds depth to India's batting lineup.

Although, due to injury reasons Iyer missed on some crucial tournaments this year, he has now recovered completely. He was also named in India's squad for Asia Cup 2023 and yesterday he played his comeback match against arch-rivals, Pakistan. Although, he tried to help his team he failed to make a mark and departed a short 16-run stint after Haris Rauf's deadly spell.

Comparing these rising stars to established greats:

Virat Kohli (757 runs at a strike rate of 84.02)

Virat Kohli, the modern-day legend, had 757 runs to his name in his first 17 ODI innings, but his strike rate was 84.02. Gill and Kishan's superior strike rates reflect the changing dynamics of the game, emphasizing the importance of scoring quickly in contemporary ODI cricket.

There aren't enough words made to script the achievements of King Kohli.  Any game, any tournament, this man is there and scripting history.

Navjot Singh Sidhu (776 runs at a strike rate of 73.24)

Navjot Singh Sidhu has also scored over 4000 runs for India in ODIs and has played plenty of memorable knocks for India in his decade long career. He started off his ODI career with a bang as well and smashed 776 runs in his first 17 ODI innings to assert himself as a formidable Indian opener in late 80s and early 90s.

Shikhar Dhawan (700 runs at a strike rate of 86.53)

Shikhar Dhawan, known for his aggressive batting at the top, managed 700 runs in his initial 17 ODI innings at a strike rate of 86.53. Gill and Kishan have matched Dhawan's strike rate, signifying their potential as explosive openers.
