The Peshawar Zalmi franchise has roped in Afghanistan cricketer Noor Ahmad as their first draft pick for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season. Earlier this year, the left-arm spinner made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in India through Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans franchise.

Ahmad has already spent time at Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators camps in PSL, as he now finds a place in Peshawar Zalmi’s expanded squad for the first time in his career.

Noor Ahmad becomes Zalmi’s platinum pick

During the PSL 2024 player draft on December 13, Afghanistan’s rising spin star Noor Ahmad was chosen by the Peshawar Zalmi franchise as their platinum pick.

The 19-year-old already holds a legion of franchise T20 experience under his belt, having turned up in tournaments like Big Bash, IPL apart from his prior PSL appearances.

In the Peshawar Zalmi camp, Noor Ahmad will be joining the likes of Pakistan batting veteran Babar Azam as well as enterprising T20 stars Rovman Powell and Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

The youngster recently represented Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup, where his wicket-taking spree in key games turned out to be a one of the crucial factors of his side’s fighting insurgence in the tournament.

Earlier this month, the Peshawar Zalmi franchise also announced a list of eight cricketers they retained for next year’s PSL 2024 season. Here is a list of each of the eight players retained by the Zalmi management:

Peshawar Zalmi: Babar Azam and Rovman Powell (both Platinum), Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (all Diamond), Mohammad Haris (Brand Ambassador) and Aamir Jamal (both Gold), Khurram Shahzad (Silver), Haseebullah (Emerging).
