Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was greeted with a barrage of boundaries by South African openers in the first over of his spell at St George’s Park. The speedster leaked 24 runs in his opening over, including 20 off the bat, as he was belted with twin sixes from Matthew Breetzke and Reeza Hendricks.

Hendricks, in particular, pulverized the 24-year-old fast bowler with a 93-meter huge hit, where the ball went soaring out of the ground.

Tasked with sharing the new-ball alongside Mohammed Siraj, young Arshdeep Singh conceded a boundary and a six upfront in his over to South African opening batsman Matthew Breetzke. His senior partner, Reeza Hendricks, on the other hand, launched Arshdeep out of the ground with a colossal hit to conclude an expensive over.

Courtesy of their powerplay batting bombardment, South Africa blitzed towards 38 after just the first two overs of their run-chase.

Arshdeep Singh conceded another 11 runs in his return spell as South Africa surged to 78-1 by the end of their six overs.

Earlier in the game, Team India amassed 180-7 before rains curtailed their innings by three deliveries. Rinku Singh and stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav bludgeoned sparkling half-centuries for the ‘Men in Blue’, with the former top-scoring through his unbeaten 68 from just 39 balls.

The first match of India’s three-T20I series against South Africa was washed out in Durban on December 10.
