In a major development, ex-Indian seamer Praveen Kumar has not applied for the role of selector in the Indian men's team, according to a report from IANS. It has been understood that the the sources close to Praveen Kumar have confirmed the news.

Recently, two spots opened up in the national selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. Some of the reports suggested that Praveen Kumar has applied for one of those spots, but it seems that the former Indian cricketer is not interested in the role as of now.

Does Praveen Kumar Fit Into BCCI's Criteria For National Selector?

Praveen Kumar retired from all forms of cricket in 2018, and according to BCCI rules, the member of the national selection committee must be retired from cricket at least five years ago. Also, the ideal applicant should be a player with experience of at least seven Tests, or 30 first-class matches or 10 ODIS and 20 first-class matches.

So, Praveen Kumar, with six Tests, 68 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, fits into that criteria while he is also currently the chief selector of Uttar Pradesh senior men's team. Another criterion for being a national selector is that the applicant should not be a part of any BCCI Cricket committee for five years.

Currently, SS Das and Ajay Ratra are the the members of the selection committee along with Ajit Agarkar. The selection of the other two spots is likely to be done soon, while the BCCI is also looking for four members in the women's national selection committee. There is also one spot up for grabs in the junior men's selection committee, and the applicants can give their nomination till 5 PM on September 10.
