In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has substantially increased the valuation for Team India sponsorship. Notably, the apex cricket board of India have invited applications to express interest in being India's jersey sponsors.
For the unversed, the BCCI recently ended their contract with Dream XI, which served as India's shirt sponsor since 2023. However, due to the government's recent bill banning online gaming and betting, Dream XI pulled out as India's sponsor.
BCCI Invites Applications For Team India Sponsors
Meanwhile, a report from Cricbuzz remarked that the BCCI has raised the valuation and are now seeking 3.50 crore rupees per bilateral match and 1.50 crore rupees per ACC or ICC event.
These figures are slightly higher than the current valuation where Dream XI used to pay INR 3.17 crore for every bilateral games and INR 1.12 crore for multilateral matches. The BCCI is seeking sponsorship for the next three years and eyeing a revenue of around INR 400 crore till the contract ends. Further, the bidding is slated for September 16.
For the Indian team's Lead Sponsor Rights, gaming, betting, crypto and tobacco brands are prohibited from bidding for sponsorship.
Why The Difference Between Bilateral and ICC Rights
In the bilateral series, the sponsors' names are placed right above the chest, making it a good visibility spot, which is why the BCCI will earn 3.5 crore per match for bilateral games.
In contrast, during ICC and ACC events, the brand mention is limited only to the sleeves, resulting in relatively lower brand visibility, eventually seeking just 1.5 crores per match.
India To Go Into Asia Cup Without A Sponsor
Since the BCCI will invite applications in September, it means that India will travel to UAE and feature in the upcoming Asia Cup without a sponsor. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side will be without a team sponsor at the front of their jersey.
