Matthew Breetzke has started off his ODI career with a bang and has now has five consecutive 50-plus scores since his debut. The cricketer started off with a brilliant 150 against New Zealand in Lahore before the Champions Trophy. He then followed it up with 83 against Pakistan a couple of days later.

Matthew Breetzke Goes Past Navjot Singh Sidhu, Tom Cooper

He continued that good start in Australia with 57 in Cairns and 88 in Mackay and now has hit fifties in the second ODI against England. This knock against English boys at Lord's has helped him go past Navjot Singh Sidhu, who scored four fifties in his initial five games during the World Cup 1987.

The Netherlands' Tom Cooper also has four fifties in his initial five innings, which he achieved in 2010. Thus, Matthew Breetzke, with his incredible consistency, has broken one of the rare batting records.

The 26-year-old right-handed batter's world record fifty helped his side reach a big total of 330. He scored his 85 runs off 77 balls and hit seven fours and three sixes in his knock.

It proved too hot to handle for the home team, England and they ended up losing the game by five runs. Breetzke was awarded the player of the match award and with it, South Africa have registered their first bilateral ODI series win in England since 1997. The final ODI of the series will be played at Rose Bowl on September 7.

Most 50+ Scores after first 5 ODI Innings:

5* - Matthew Breetzke (South Africa)

4 - Navjot Singh Sidhu (India)

4 - Tom Cooper (Netherlands)

South Africa now would be hoping that the Breetzke continues to do well and make that number four position in ODIs his own with the World Cup 2027 in mind.
