The UP T20 League has been hit by a match-fixing scare just before the final on September 6. Lucknow police have registered an FIR after the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) reported a suspicious approach to one of the teams.
According to the complaint, on August 31, Kashi Rudra team manager Arjun Chauhan received an Instagram message from someone using the ID ‘vipss_nakrani’. The sender claimed to be a big-time bookie and offered him ₹1 crore to fix matches, along with a ₹50 lakh personal commission.
Instead of agreeing, the manager immediately alerted the ACU. The ACU set a trap by continuing the conversation, during which the accused shared his WhatsApp number. He promised instant payments in cash or US dollars, and even claimed he and his associates would be present at the ground to pay players immediately after matches.
The ACU recorded all chats and calls as evidence and then handed them over to the police.

DCP Nipun Agarwal confirmed that a case has been registered under multiple sections, including cheating, illegal betting, and cybercrime laws.
"We have registered a case against the unidentified suspect and his associates under BNS sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 112 (penalising organised crime), 62 (attempting to commit offences), section 3 of the Public Gambling Act, 1867, and Section 66D of the IT Act," said DCP South Zone, Nipun Agarwal, as quoted by TOI.
Officials said the suspect may not be working alone and could have connections with bookies who previously tried to approach other teams during the tournament. The Cyber Crime Cell is now tracking his IP address and online contacts.
The UP T20 League, which began on August 17 in Lucknow, is now under tight watch as authorities investigate possible match-fixing attempts.
