Indian opener Sanju Samson was dismissed off a two ball duck by Marco Jansen in the 3rd T20I against South Africa held at Centurion. Samson, who scored a century in the first game, registered his second consecutive duck, leading to widespread mocking and trolling on the internet.
Sanju Samson’s form in T20Is since being promoted as an opener has been noteworthy. He scored back-to-back hundreds to cement his spot in the playing XI nearly a decade after his debut. However, the euphoria lasted only a while as runs dried up from Samson’s bat in the following 2 T20Is against South Africa.
Sanju Samson faces backlash over consecutive failures
Marco Jansen knocked out Sanju Samson on a duck in the 3rd T20I in what turned out to be his second consecutive duck in the series. Jansen bowled a length delivery that didn’t bounce as Samson expected it to. He stood in the crease to defend. But the ball stayed low, snuck through his defence, and hit his off-stump, resulting in an early breakthrough for the Proteas.
Meanwhile, fans mercilessly trolled Sanju Samson on Twitter for his back to back failures. Many still called him overhyped and made multiple memes to troll his failures.
That being said, following Sanju Samson’s early departure, Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma stabilised things while simultaneously keeping the run rate in check.
By the end of the first powerplay, India had 70 runs on the board as Abhishek finally delivered to hit his shots with a strike rate of over 200. The foundation is set for India to aim for a big total and put South Africa under pressure.
However, Sanju Samson’s failure will be a highlight of this match. As someone who enjoys a vast following, his defeats are equally scrutinised. And the recent Twitter reaction to his duck is a perfect example of that.
