The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to announce Shahid Aslam as the national men’s team’s new batting coach before their upcoming white-ball tour to Zimbabwe, according to sources on Tuesday. In all likelihood, Shahid Aslam is expected to take on the role permanently following Pakistan's recent poor performance, especially during the T20I series against Australia.

His appointment comes after a recommendation from the newly appointed interim head coach Aqib Javed for white-ball cricket. Shahid has been part of the national team’s support staff in different roles over the years, and now he’s ready to step up for this big challenge. His first big test will be the Zimbabwe tour, followed by the exciting South Africa tour.

Pakistan’s upcoming schedule includes three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe, which will be a key test of Shahid Aslam’s impact as batting coach. The team’s recent performances haven’t been stellar, particularly in the recent T20I series against Australia, where the batters struggled to make an impact.

Pakistan Batters Struggle Against Australia In T20Is

In the three-match series in Australia, Usman Khan was the only player to shine, scoring 59 runs across three innings. In contrast, former Pakistan captain, Babar Azam managed just 47 runs, with a top score of 41 in Pakistan’s seven-wicket loss in the final game in Hobart. Australia clean-swept the series 3-0, thanks to the heroics of Marcus Stoinis in the final T20I.
