With Pakistan moving closer to national elections next month, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has found a new interim chairman in their Election Commissioner, Shah Khawar. As reported by Cricket Pakistan, Khawar arrived at PCB headquarters on Wednesday morning and was greeted with a warm welcome from the board's Chief Operating Officer (CEO), Salman Naseer.

Khawar will fulfil the responsibilities of the interim chief until the PCB elections take place, with the current nominee for the post of chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, serving on the governing board as a member for the time being. The announcement of the formation of a new Board of Governors will also be made soon.

Khawar will also oversee the upcoming PCB elections, where if Naqvi wins will be appointed to a three-year team as chairperson. The election is expected to take place within one month.

Khawar takes over the reins from former governing body chairman Zaka Ashraf, who stepped down from this post earlier this month.

The PCB has been undergoing several reforms and has seen the chairman change as many as four times in the past few years, with Eshan Mani, Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi, and Ashraf all heading the apex cricketing body in the nation.

The Pakistan national team, too, has been undergoing a problematic phase, having showcased poor performances in World Cup 2023, Australia, and New Zealand, where the team won just five matches out of 17 internationals.
