The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the completion of the coaching tenure of Mohammad Wasim for the Pakistan Women’s cricket team. The board confirmed their decision after Pakistan finished at the bottom of the eight-team points table in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Mohammad Wasim was first appointed as Pakistan Women’s head coach back in June 2024 last year. During his tenure, the ‘Women in Green’ also endured a crushing first-round exit in the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE back in October 2024.

PCB ends Mohammad Wasim’s tenure, new coach to be named soon

As reported by geosuper.tv, the PCB is currently in the process of finding a new head coach for the Pakistan women’s cricket team. The report indicated that the successor of Mohammad Wasim will be named in due course.

Mohammad Wasim, also a former Pakistan cricketer and an ex-men’s selector, was appointed as Pakistan Women’s coach back in June 2024. Under his tenure, the ‘Women in Green’ failed to win the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup, the subsequent T20 World Cup in the UAE, and failed to win a single game at the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

As per the sources, it is worth noting that Mohammad Wasim was also a de-facto batting coach of the Pakistan Women’s team. Moreover, the former cricketer was reportedly involved in various critical team decisions like selection as well as for making support staff appointments. Despite getting a free hand from the PCB, Pakistan Women’s performance under him has yielded underwhelming returns.

Pakistan cap World Cup 2025 without a win

The Pakistan Women’s team suffered four defeats and endured three no-results in seven matches of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Playing all their matches within close proximity of venues in Sri Lanka, Pakistan coped a crushing 88-run thrashing at the hands of arch-rivals India in Colombo.

They will now travel to South Africa in February next year to play three T20Is and three ODI matches.
