Former Australian captain Meg Lanning went bonkers against Sydney Sixers in North Sydney as Melbourne Stars mounted one of the highest team totals in the history of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The multi-World Cup winner clobbered her second WBBL ton, as the Stars racked up a slew of batting records at the venue.

Celebrating Melbourne Stars’ batting mayhem in Sydney, here is a look at five of the highest team totals recorded in the history of the WBBL.

5. Sydney Thunder 212-5 vs Adelaide Strikers, WBBL 2024

Sydney Thunder Women, bolstered by Georgia Voll’s electrifying 55-ball 92, charted 212-5 in 20 overs against Adelaide Strikers in match number eight of the WBBL 2024 season back in November 2024. Batting first at the North Sydney Oval, Georgia clattered 12 fours and three huge sixes in her innings despite losing opening partner Chamari Athapaththu early in the game. Captain Phoebe Litchfield also smeared 49 off just 31 balls in the middle overs, before Heather Knight made 28 off 15 to turbo-charge the Sydney Thunder innings at the death.

Shabnim Ismail and Samantha Bates ably complemented the batters later in the game as Sydney Thunder secured a comprehensive 64-run win.

4. Hobart Hurricanes 212-3 vs Melbourne Renegades, WBBL 2023

Hobart Hurricanes Women mounted 212-3 in 20 overs against the Melbourne Renegades back in November 2023 in match number 51 of the WBBL 2023 season at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Opening batter Lizelle Lee led Hurricanes’ batting charge with an epic 101* off just 53 balls, clattering 12 fours and four sixes in the process.

Heather Graham at number five also blasted 55* from just 28 deliveries and shared a herculean 112-run partnership with the opener in less than eight overs as the Hurricanes won the match by 93 runs.

3. Melbourne Stars 219-4 vs Sydney Sixers, WBBL 2025

Inspired by vintage batter Meg Lanning, Melbourne Stars blazed to 219-4 in 20 overs against Sydney Sixes Women in match number 17 of the WBBL 2025 season at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney. The former Australian captain top-scored in the high-scoring innings, blasting 135 off 74 balls with 22 fours and four huge sixes. Meg Lanning’s opening partner Rhys McKenna also made 50 in just 34 balls as the two cricketers shared a 159-run opening stand in less than 16 overs.

Despite losing four wickets at the death, the Melbourne Stars still accrued 42 runs in the final 18 balls of the innings.

2. Brisbane Heat 229-7 vs Perth Scorchers, WBBL 2023

Brisbane Heat batted first against Perth Scorchers Women at the North Sydney Oval in match number five of the WBBL 2023 season and listed 229-7, the second highest total in tournament history to date. Opener Grace Harris bludgeoned 136 of those runs, unbeaten no less, in just 59 deliveries with 12 fours and 11 cracking sixes.

Mignon du Preez at number four also listed 39 in just 23 balls to ensure Brisbane Heat sustained their run-scoring spree despite losing constant wickets from the other end, before eventually sealing the match by 50 runs.

1. Sydney Sixers 242-4 vs Melbourne Stars, WBBL 2017

Ashleigh Gardner went berserk for the Sydney Sixers Women’s team back in December 2017 during match number three of the WBBL 2017 season against the Melbourne Stars at the North Sydney Oval. Batting first, captain Ellyse Perry and all-rounder Gardner did the bulk of the scoring, compounding 205 runs out of their team’s monumental total of 242-4 in 20 overs.

While Perry smeared nine fours and four huge sixes in her blistering 49-ball 91, Ashleigh Gardner slapped her career-best T20 score of 114 runs in just 52 balls with nine boundaries and 10 maximums. Needless to say, the Sydney Sixers Women won the match and won it big, crushing the Stars by 86 runs.
