Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been benched from the 2025 Pakistan T20I Tri-Nation series match against Sri Lanka on Saturday, November 22, considering the senior paceman has sustained a foot injury.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now confirmed that Shaheen Afridi is currently under observation by the PCB medical team.
Shaheen Afridi suffers minor foot fascial injury
On Saturday, November 22; i.e., shortly prior to Pakistan’s tri-series match against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, the PCB provided the injury update of ODI captain and pace maverick Shaheen Afridi.
In a media release, the PCB stated that Afridi is currently being observed by the PCB medical team in a bid to attain full recovery from his minor foot fascial injury. The board will be expected to issue further timeline of the cricketer’s recovery, like his return to the national team, within a day or two.
Shaheen Afridi played the opening match of the Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025 earlier this week against Zimbabwe on November 18. Sending down his four overs, the speedster dismissed Brad Evans to sustain Zimbabwe’s late collapse as Pakistan won the match by five wickets in a tense last-over finish.
Nonetheless, in the absence of an injured Shaheen Afridi, the Pakistan team management recalled fellow fast bowler Mohammad Wasim into the playing XI. Wasim played the last of his 29 T20Is for Pakistan back in January 2024, as he makes his return to the national 20-overs team after a gap of nearly two years.
As of now, it remains to be seen when Shaheen Afridi can steam in again, as Pakistan aims to secure a spot in the final of the home T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
