Senior Scotland spin bowler Mark Watt demonstrated his wares with the bat, albeit for the Karnali Yaks team in match number seven of the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 season. A veteran of 117 T20 matches who holds a batting average of just 9.94, the 29-year-old smacked Lumbini Lions bowlers to all corners of the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, clattering 114* in the process from just 44 deliveries with six boundaries and 12 huge sixes.

Unfortunately for Watt, his batting average will continue to remain under 10 as NPL matches do not have official T20 status from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Opening the innings for the Karnali Yaks in a chase of 157, Mark Watt lost partner Priyank Panchal early for just 12. Watt, however, subsequently forged a match-winning partnership of 123* runs with number three William Bosisto to blaze Karnali Yaks to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Lumbini Lions in just 12.2 overs.

A specialist left-arm spinner by trade, the Scotland cricketer himself blasted 114* from just 44 deliveries with six fours and 12 sixes to top-score in the game. He was also adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for additionally picking up a wicket during the Lions innings.

Notably, Mark Watt averages just 9.94 with the bat in T20 cricket. In the 52 innings spanning 117 matches he has played in his career so far, the left-hander has managed to register a top-score of just 31*.

Surprisingly one-and-all with his batting tricks in NPL 2025, his average will continue to remain below 10 as the tournament is not officially recognized under the T20 category by the ICC. Nonetheless, such exploits might just open a new chapter for him in Scotland’s T20I setup, beyond the role of a specialist spinner.
