Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly frustrated over the slow renovation process of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The Lahore-based venue is one of the three stadiums in Pakistan designated to host next year’s 2025 Champions Trophy matches.

PCB chairman frustrated with slow renovation progress

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi attended the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on June 11, where he expressed his frustration over the venue’s slow renovation progress. With 2025 Champions Trophy nearly six months away, the cricket administrator had already directed the authorities to operate around the clock.

While speaking with The Nation, Naqvi emphasized that the project of this scale can only be completed on time by “working 24/7”. He further urged the PCB stakeholders to adhere to the available timeline.

Apart from the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and the National Stadium in Karachi are the other two venues designated to host 2025 Champions Trophy matches. The tournament is marking a return to the cricketing lore for the first time following its 2017 edition in England.

The upgradation efforts in Rawalpindi and Karachi have also been undertaken by the PCB as Pakistan preps up to host the prestigious 50-overs event. The tournament itself will likely be played between February and March next year, however, several recent reports have indicated that it might launch in January itself.
