Gaddafi Stadium is formerly known as Lahore Stadium, and is owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). It is the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan and serves as the official headquarters of the PCB.
The stadium was named in 1972 in honour of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi by then-President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Over the years, Gaddafi Stadium has not only hosted Pakistan’s home games and international fixtures but has also been a vital venue for matches in the PSL. Ahead of the Champions Trophy in 2025, the PCB had reconstructed and upgrade the stadium.
After Gaddafi Stadium's renovation, it now features improved seating capacity, modern hospitality boxes, upgraded floodlights, electronic scoreboards, and cutting-edge LED towers.
The Gaddafi Stadium can accommodate 27,000 spectators, making it a vibrant and electric venue for high-stakes matches. The upgraded seating and modern facilities have further improved after the updation and development ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Gaddafi Stadium is widely recognized as a batters' paradise. The pitch offers consistent bounce and true pace, allowing batters to time their strokes effortlessly. The ball comes nicely onto the bat, especially in the early overs, making it ideal for fluent shot-making.
However, there is a twist for bowlers. Seamers can extract some early movement, but this advantage diminishes as the ball gets older. Spinners,on the other hand, can find some turn and grip.
Is Gaddafi Stadium Pitch Batting Or Bowling Friendly?
Yes, Gaddafi Stadium’s pitch is batting friendly. The pitch supports stroke play with ease. The combination of consistent surface, even bounce, and a fast outfield makes it one of the high-scoring grounds. While spinners might enjoy brief spells of dominance, the pitch largely remains favourable for batters.
