USA crashed to a seven-wicket defeat against India in match number 25 of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup on June 12 at New York’s Nassau County Stadium. After getting jolted by Arshdeep Singh in the opening powerplay, the struggling USA batting line-up dragged themselves to 110-8 by the end of their innings.

Despite getting rid of heavyweights Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the Indian run-chase, USA bowlers failed to stop Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube’s juggernaut as the ‘Men in Blue’ cruised past the finishing line in the penultimate over of the match.

USA will now face Ireland in their final group game of the tournament on June 14. With just a match left in USA’s campaign, here we explain how they can still qualify for the Super Eight stage after sustaining a demoralizing defeat to India.

How can USA still qualify for Super Eight?

In a bid to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup, USA needs to defeat Ireland by whatever margin in their final Group A game of the tournament. A win over Ireland would help them finish with six points on the Group A standings.

If USA fails to defeat the Irish, they will be required to rely on certain exterior results like hoping for Ireland to defeat Pakistan on June 16 at Lauderhill. If Ireland manages to beat Pakistan, Babar Azam and co. will remain on two points, i.e., behind the USA cricket team.

All in all, USA’s best bet for a Super Eight qualification remains a win over Ireland by any margin on June 14. The much-awaited contest will be staged at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground.
