The Australian skipper, as well as the two modern-day batting behemoths are currently prepping themselves for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between the two sides.

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Cummins defended the two Indian batters and claimed that every player with long careers tend to go through rough patches at some stage.

Pat Cummins caught up with Hindustan Times for an exclusive interview amidst Australia’s ODI series against Pakistan. Ahead of Australia’s five-match home Test series against India, the legendary fast bowler was asked if the Australian team management has made any plans for struggling and soon-to-be visiting batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

As Cummins explained that while Australia’s primary focus is to try and keep the entire Indian batting line-up as quiet as possible, he also defended Kohli and Sharma by claiming that all players with long careers tend to undergo rough patches at some stage. The 31-year-old also acknowledged the collective experience shared by the two Indian batters, by saying:

“If you're going to have a long career, you're going to have little (bad) patches. Our job is to try and keep them quiet. Those 2 are obviously some of India's more experienced players.”

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma tallied just 93 and 91 runs respectively during India’s recently-concluded home Test series against New Zealand. Their collective batting struggles compounded in India’s dismal 0-3 series defeat at home, which subsequently helped Australia take over the number one spot on the 2023-25 WTC points table.

With crucial WTC points on the line, Kohli and Sharma will be aiming for some batting redemption as India tries to make amends for their horror show against New Zealand by putting up an impressive outing ‘Down Under’. The series against Australia will be played from November 22 till January 7. The first Test will be hosted by the Optus Stadium in Perth.
