Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has penned an emotional note for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after getting released from the franchise on the day of IPL 2025 retention announcement. Taking to his Instagram account, the speedster expressed his gratitude and extended his best wishes to the LSG team management for their future endeavors.
Naveen-ul-Haq was roped in by the LSG back in late 2022 for the 2023 edition of the tournament. Having turned up for them in 18 matches spanning two different seasons, the right-arm paceman picked up 25 wickets at an average of 23.64.
Naveen-Ul-Haq bids adieu to LSG
On November 7, i.e., roughly a week after the IPL 2025 retention announcement, Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq expressed his gratitude towards the LSG team management. The speedster became one of the many cricketers released by the LSG franchise on October 31.
Apart from Naveen-ul-Haq, the LSG franchise also released the likes of captain KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Quinton de Kock. As it turned out, the LSG team management retained just five cricketers, including just one overseas star in the form of belligerent West Indies-based wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran. Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav and uncapped players Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni are also set to reprise their LSG roles in next year’s IPL 2025 season.
Naveen-ul-Haq is now on course to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction. A veteran of 205 T20 matches, including 45 international appearances for Afghanistan, the 25-year-old cricketer has so far collected 246 wickets in the format at a bowling average of 24.28.
In IPL alone, Naveen has played 18 matches, all for the LSG in 2023 and 2024, to pick up 25 wickets at a slightly better bowling average of 23.64. He recently took part in the CPL 2024 season in the Caribbean for the Barbados Royals franchise.
