According to emerging reports, swashbuckling Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant will likely lead Delhi in their upcoming Ranji Trophy encounter against Saurashtra. After India's disastrous defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, several prominent players, including Pant, are going to feature in the Ranji Trophy to fine-tune their red-ball game.
Delhi To Prefer Pant Over Kohli As Ranji Trophy Captain: Report
According to the Times Of India (TOI), Pant will likely be named as Delhi's captain on his Ranji Trophy return against Saurashtra. According to a senior DDCA official, the selectors will have a meeting on Friday afternoon before unveiling Delhi's squad for the high-profile face-off.
"A selection meeting will happen in the afternoon tomorrow and it's likely that Rishabh Pant will be the skipper for the away game versus Saurashtra," the official was quoted as saying by TOI.
No Clarity On Virat Kohli's Participation In Ranji Trophy
The report also claims that the DDCA has yet to get clarity on Virat Kohli's participation in the Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. The talismanic batter, who received massive backlash for his torrid run Down Under, was expected to turn up for Delhi in the famed domestic competition.
However, the legendary cricketer has yet to confirm his availability for the must-win match, with uncertainty looming over his participation in the Ranji Trophy. Kohli, who struck a flamboyant century in the BGT opener in Perth, failed to replicate a similar success in the subsequent matches.
He kept falling prey to deliveries pitched outside the off stump, raising concerns about his form in red-ball cricket. However, with the Champions Trophy coming up, it won't be surprising if the superstar opts to rest and make his comeback with the ODI series against England.
