Matt Renshaw fell short of a well-deserved half-century, departing for 40 runs in the 36th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at The Gabba on January 16.
Coming in after Usman Khawaja’s dismissal for 23, Renshaw forged a solid 69-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne, providing stability to the Heat’s innings. However, his promising knock came to an abrupt end due to a brilliant piece of fielding by Tim David.
The incident occurred in the ninth over when Mitchell Owen delivered a length ball on the pads. Renshaw flicked it towards deep backward square leg, where David was positioned.
Attempting a quick second run on the shorter boundary, Renshaw charged back but couldn’t beat David’s sharp throw. David’s accurate throw to Matthew Wade, who broke the stumps cleanly, left Renshaw just short of his crease.
Marnus Labuschagne Leads From Front
The TV Umpire confirmed the run-out, breaking the partnership and leaving Brisbane Heat three wickets down. Despite this setback, Marnus Labuschagne carried on, completing his fifty and leading from the front.
At the time of writing, Brisbane Heat are 172 for 4 in 17 overs, with Labuschagne and Tom Alsop at the crease, fighting to post a strong total after the Hurricanes opted to bowl first.
