Pakistan Women head coach to be axed by PCB [Source: @ShakeelktkKhan/x]
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will reportedly sack Pakistan Women head coach Mohammad Wasim following the team’s disastrous run this 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Fatima Sana, the ‘Women in Green’ failed to win a single game in the tournament, sustaining four defeats amid three no-results from seven games to finish seventh on the eight-team points table.
It is worth noting that Wasim was first appointed as Pakistan Women head coach back in June 2024 last year.
Crisis hour for PAK Women as team set to lose head coach
As reported by GeoSuper.tv on Sunday, October 26, i.e., a day after Pakistan Women concluded their listless 2025 ICC World Cup campaign in Sri Lanka, the PCB has announced that they will not be renewing the contract of head coach Mohammad Wasim. Sources close to the PCB also stated that the board will likely be naming Wasim’s replacement next week.
The sources also added that apart from being the head coach, Mohammad Wasim was also involved in various critical team decisions like selection and making support staff appointments. Despite getting nearly full authority and reportedly receiving full support of the board, Pakistan Women’s performance under him has proven to be underwhelming for quite some time.
A World Cup to forget for Pakistan Women
Pakistan Women started off the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup with three huge defeats against cellar-dwellers Bangladesh, arch-rivals India and defending champions Australia. The ‘Women in Green’ did put up a spirited performance against England, and fumbled once again against New Zealand Women, but each of those games were washed away due to rains in Colombo.
Pakistan Women then suffered a 150-run larruping at the hands of a semifinal bound South Africa on October 21. In their final match of the tournament, Pakistan reached 18-0 in 4.2 overs before play was called off at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
