England Women obliterated New Zealand in match 27 to finish number two on the points table before the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s World Cup. Alice Capsey and opening batter Amy Jones came to the fore for England in Sophie Devine’s outbound ODI for the ‘White Ferns’.

Linsey Smith and Alice Capsey skittle New Zealand Women
New Zealand Women folded up for just 168 in 38.2 overs despite reaching 89-1 at one stage of the innings. After the early loss of Suzie Bates to Linsey Smith, Georgia Plimmer and number three Amelia crafted a 68-run partnership for the second wicket until both cricketers were dismissed by Charlie Dean and Alice Capsey respectively in successive deliveries.
New Zealand captain and outbound player Sophie Devine scored just 23 off 35 balls in her final ODI innings. Linsey Smith picked up two more New Zealand wickets late in the innings to claim figures of 3-30. Nat Sciver-Brunt shattered New Zealand’s lower-order with two huge scalps while Alice Capsey snared Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green to claim 2-34.
Amy Jones steers England to comfortable win
Chasing 169 for a win, England Women opener Amy Jones compiled a prestigious 86* off 92 balls with 11 alluring boundaries and one huge six. Her opening partner Tammy Beaumont also cracked 40 off 38 before getting trapped in front by Lea Tahuhu (1-9).
Sophie Devine ended Amy’s 83-run partnership with Heather Knight (33 off 40) to bag her final ODI wicket. Danni Wyatt-Hodge at number four arrived to the crease at 158-2 by Jones notched up the winning runs with successive boundaries in just the 30th over of the innings.
