In an eventful and successful day for Pakistan Shaheens, Kashif Ali and Khurram Shahzad dominated with the new ball to wrap up Sri Lanka A for 115 runs on Day 1 of the 4-day game scheduled at Rawalpindi. Kashif’s double blow in the 8th over left Sri Lanka in early trouble at 14/4 before Sonal Dinusha and Pasindu Sooriyabandara added some runs on the board.

Pakistan Shaheens hosted Sri Lanka A at the Rawalpindi Stadium on November 11 for the first four-day game. The visitors were asked to bat first, and Shaheens rammed through the top order. Kashif Ali knocked out Oshada Fernando to draw first blood in the 4th over. Khurram Shahzad backed him up with Ahan Wickramasinghe’s dismissal.

Kashif was unstoppable with the new ball as he struck twice in the 8th over to dismiss Nipun Dhananjaya and Pavan Rathnayake to trigger a collapse. Visiting skipper Pasindu Sooriyabandara (28 off 84) and Sonal Dinusha (30 off 110) rescued Lanka from 14/4 to 115/10. Kashif Ali bagged a well earned fifer whereas Khurram also picked 4 wickets as the duo annihilated Sri Lanka A.

In response, Pakistan Shaheens lost skipper Mohammad Huraira early as he was bowled by Fernando. Abdul Faseeh also couldn’t last long and at stumps on Day 1, the Shaheens were trailing 49 runs with 66/2 on the board. Interestingly, only 57.1 overs were bowled on Day 1 as bad light stopped play, and eventually, the play had to be called off for the day. Ali Zaryab (18*) and Mohammad Suleman (11*) will resume Shaheen’s innings on Day 2.

Sri Lanka A last beat Pakistan A in the Emerging Asia Cup 

The last time Pakistan Shaheens and Sri Lanka A came face to face, the latter outclassed the former in the semi-finals to enter the finals of the Emerging Asia Cup. The Shaheens batted first to put a modest total of 135 runs on the board. In response, Sri Lanka A had a comfortable run as they wrapped up the chase in 16.3 overs. Ahan Wickramasinghe scored 52 off 46 balls, whereas Lahiru Udara slammed 43 off 20 balls to take the win.
