Pakistan's participation in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 continues to be in limbo as Pakistan's government now seeks security assurances from both the International Cricket Council and the host Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A 14-member government-formed panel discussed Pakistan's travel to India for the marquee event in October. The committee will send their recommendation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who will take the final call based on the report.

With Pakistan's match with India being rescheduled, the Pakistan government has sought guarantees from both ICC and BCCI. The high-voltage encounter was earlier scheduled for October 15 in Ahmedabad but will most likely be preponed.

The Sharif-formed panel consists of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of Inter-Provincial Coordination Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari, and also chiefs of various national security institutions.

These meetings will also be attended by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Zaka Ashraf. The 2023 World Cup gets underway on October 5 and ends on November 19, with ten nations battling it out for the coveted trophy currently held by the defending champions, England.
