In a significant development, Royal Challengers Bangalore have roped in legendary former cricketer Andy Flower as their head coach ahead of the IPL 2024. Flower, who recently bid adieu to Lucknow Super Giants, replaces Sanjay Bangar, whose contract was not renewed following the side's abysmal outing in the IPL 2023.

Furthermore, the franchise, in an official statement, confirmed the non-renewal of Mike Hesson’s contract, wishing him all the best for his future endeavours.

Notably, Flower has a plethora of experience in coaching, having mentored international teams, including England in the past. His stint with the Lucknow Super Giants concluded recently, with former Australian opener Justin Langer taking over the reins.

Regarded for his determination and flamboyance, Flower was Zimbabwe’s mainstay during the nineties and early 2000s, amassing 11580 runs, including 16 hundreds, at a magnificent average of 40.63.

After retiring from cricket, the stylish southpaw coached several teams, international as well as franchises, with distinction. He has also led his teams to titles in the PSL, ILT20, The Hundred and Abu Dhabi T10.

Talking about RCB, the Faf du Plessis-led outfit suffered a group-stage elimination in the IPL 2023, occupying the sixth position in the points table with seven wins in fourteen appearances. So, given they are yet to clinch the coveted trophy, it will be interesting to see how they perform in Flower’s regime in the next season.
