Rohit, Gambhir In Trouble? BCCI To Conduct Review Meeting After Poor BGT Outing

In a significant development, the BCCI will hold a crucial review meeting on January 11 at 5 PM at its headquarters in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The main agenda of the meeting will be to analyse India's disappointing performance in the recently concluded BGT in Australia. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to attend the meeting alongside top BCCI officials. President Roger Binny, joint secretary Devajit Saikia (acting-secretary), and vice-president Rajiv Shukla are also expected to be included in the meeting. 

While India boasts recent success in white-ball cricket, that include the T20 World Cup victory, India's recent Test cricket fortunes have taken a hit. The series loss to New Zealand at home in 2024, followed by recent defeat in Australia, has raised concerns about the team's performance and direction in the longest format.  

Several matters that are likely expected to dominate discussions at the review meeting is:  

Form of Senior Players: It is important to mention that, skipper Rohit Sharma missed the final Test in Sydney, while Virat Kohli’s prolonged slump with the bat has drawn widespread criticism.  

Dressing Room Dynamics: Speculation about discord among senior players during the tour has raised questions about team harmony.  

Ashwin’s Sudden Retirement: Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s mid-series retirement announcement and abrupt return to India have sparked debate about his decision and its impact on the team.  

The outcomes of the meeting and discussions will likely shape future strategies and decisions for the team in Test cricket.

Special General Meeting 

The Board’s Special General Meeting (SGM) is scheduled for Sunday at 12 PM in Mumbai. Devajit Saikia will officially assume the role of BCCI secretary, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia is set to be announced as the new treasurer.
