Gill ignored by Australian media [Source: @CricCrazyJohns/X.Com]
Due to his playing style, elegance and hunger for runs, Shubman Gill is often compared to his idol, Virat Kohli. The Indian media has often touted him to be the successor of Kohli, however, the Australian media has a different take on it.
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australian media has started playing mind games and have set their sights on their new target - Yashasvi Jaiswal, by calling him 'The new King.'
The Australian media outlet, Daily Telegraph Sport, used Kohli's picture on their front page with a title in Hindi, which translates to 'Fight for the ages.' They also used Jaiswal's picture on the back page with a title - 'The New King.'
"Yashasvi Jaiswal is the most aggressive opener to come out of India after Virender Sehwag and the country's most exciting batter since Virat Kohli," Daily Telegraph Sport stated.
Apart from Kohli, Jaiswal will hold the key for India during the Border-Gavaskar series. This will be Jaiswal's first tour, Down Under, but he will back his instincts to do well in tough Aussie conditions.
Why Jaiswal should be hailed as the new King?
Jaiswal has shown time and again that he is the next India great across formats. After an impressive IPL 2023 season, Indian selectors fast-tracked him in the Test team and he instantly made a mark by performing exceedingly well on the West Indies tour.
Just like Kohli, Jaiswal has the appetite for runs, and it was evident during the England series, earlier this year. Against the touring English team, he scored truckloads of runs and slammed two double centuries.
Last month in October, he became the first Indian batter to score 1,000 Test runs in a calendar year before turning 23. After 14 Tests, Jaiswal has a staggering record in Tests, averaging 56.28 and scoring 1407 runs.
