Team India clattered Bangladesh by seven wickets at Kanpur’s Green Park to clinch the two-match Test series 2-0. Brash young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played starring role with the bat in each Indian innings, punching out scores of 72 and 51 to bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Shubman Gill also starred in the match by scoring a swift 39 in the first innings, mere days after pounding a match-winning century in the series opener at the Chepauk Stadium. India’s remarkable series win exemplifies the promising future of their batting lineup, driven by the next generation of dynamic talents like Jaiswal and Gill.

With the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma entering the twilight stages of their playing careers, legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin even described Jaiswal and Gill the “future pillars and overseas stars for Indian cricket.”

While speaking at the post-match press conference after India’s seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Kanpur, Ravichandran Ashwin hailed Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their match-defining knocks with the bat.

The legendary off-spinner signified the carefree approach of the two emerging talents, and even described them the flagbearers of India’s batting in the future. He said:

“Look, I think Yashasvi Jaiswal is a special talent. He plays freely and willingly. He's just started his international career, as is Shubman Gill. Both of them are still in the formative years of playing Test cricket, but I believe they will be the future pillars and overseas stars for Indian cricket.”

“It's just that they need to be able to encounter more and more new experiences and be able to identify for themselves what they need to work on. The raw material is there, and it's evident to everyone that both of them are high-quality players.”

With a string of impressive performance in their trail, both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will be expected to face New Zealand in a three-match Test series at home in October and November. The two youngsters will subsequently travel to Australia later this year for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
