In what could very well be one of the most dramatic trades ever in the history of the IPL, it has emerged that the Rajasthan Royals are in advanced talks over trading their captain, Sanju Samson, to the Chennai Super Kings in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, both franchises have discussed the potential swap with all three players involved.
While neither team has officially confirmed the move, reports indicate that formal paperwork and player consent are the only steps left before the trade can be finalised by the IPL governing council.
Sanju Samson is likely to move to MS Dhoni’s CSK
If completed, this would mark a major shake-up between two of the league’s most established sides and a dramatic change for all three cricketers.
Sanju Samson has been the face of Rajasthan Royals for over a decade. Having served the franchise for 11 seasons, leading it since 2021, Samson has reportedly indicated his desire to move on after IPL 2025.
For Ravindra Jadeja, the move will feel like returning home. He launched his IPL career with Rajasthan Royals in 2008, winning the first title under Shane Warne.
He went on to become one of CSK's most iconic players over the years, helping them win numerous titles and finally sealing the 2023 final with his heroics in the last over.
England all-rounder Sam Curran would also move to RR in this deal. Curran struggled in a season with CSK in 2025. He picked up only 1 wicket in 5 matches and would benefit from a change of scenery.
Dewald Brevis is off the trade market
Interestingly, earlier reports also stated that RR demanded Dewald Brevis to be included in the trade package along with Ravindra Jadeja. However, after CSK pulled Brevis off the table, fresh rumours suggest the Royals seek an all-round option in Sam Curran.
Notably, CSK and RR previously had a discussion related to a trade involving Sanju Samson. But that chatter didn’t materialise. Regardless, this time around, the speculations are intense, and Samson could very well be seen in yellow colours next year.
