The 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup has received a couple of major scheduling updates. As per latest reports, the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata are being considered as venues for the semifinals of the tournament. Colombo in Sri Lanka might also host a semifinal, if either Pakistan or Sri Lanka makes it to the final four.
It is worth noting that Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium was earlier considered to host the final of the showpiece ICC event.
Narendra Modi Stadium shortlisted for semifinal, not final: Report
As reported by Cricbuzz on Sunday, November 9, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata have been shortlisted by the ICC and the BCCI to host the two semifinals of next year’s 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is another contender to host the knockout clash.
Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai are among other cities shortlisted for the tournament overall in India. As many as two stadiums from Colombo and another venue in Kandy have been finalized so far for matches to be hosted by Sri Lanka.
The report further indicated that the governing bodies are yet to finalize a venue for the final.
As per Express Sports, the tournament will be played between February 7 and March 8. Bengaluru, meanwhile, will likely be hosting the warm-up fixtures.
For the semifinals, any match or matches involving either Sri Lanka or Pakistan will be hosted by Colombo. The final will also be hosted by Colombo, if Pakistan reaches the final two stage.
It is worth noting that the entirety of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was intended to be hosted by India. However, owing to India’s prevailing geo-political tensions with Pakistan, the PCB has expressed their reluctance in sending their team to India. Pakistan’s entire share of matches will now be hosted by Sri Lanka, much like the recently-concluded 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
