Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir nominated England’s ‘BazBall’ machine Harry Brook as the ‘Player of the Series’ at the end of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The former Indian cricketer picked Brook over the likes of Joe Root and England captain Ben Stokes.
Notably, it was the head coaches from both sides who were tasked to pick the ‘Player of the Series’ from the opposition camp. In India’s case, captain Shubman Gill won the ‘Player of the Series’ as picked by England head coach and former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum.
Gambhir Drops A Bombshell With Harry Brook
Harry Brook won the ‘Player of the Series’ award for aggregating 481 runs in nine innings at an average of 53.44. As it turned out, his senior teammate Joe Root compiled 537 runs in as many innings at a higher batting average of 67.12, plundering three tons and a half-century in the process.
Gautam Gambhir’s call of picking Brook as ‘Player of the Series’ surprised many, considering senior man Root had outscored the 26-year-old by a fair margin. Moreover, for Gambhir, Brook even outperformed England captain and charismatic all-rounder Ben Stokes, who scored 304 runs in just seven innings spanning four Tests and additionally hauled 17 wickets with the ball in eight innings.
It is safe to assume that Gautam Gambhir was swayed over by Harry Brook’s blistering batting strike rate of 81.38, which was the second highest among all players across both sides this series. It is worth noting that coach Gambhir himself has previously advocated for aggressive approach in Test cricket for Team Inda.
