Ever since multiple reports emerged that Gautam Gambhir will have Suryakumar Yadav as India’s next T20I captain till T20 World Cup 2026, different opinions have been coming on social media, making the decision a bit dicey.

As the Men in Blue had been grooming Hardik Pandya for a while in T20Is, the obvious choice for the BCCI would have been making the ace all-rounder Rohit Sharma’s successor.

However, most of them believe Gambhir always likes to grab the limelight, and hence, preferring SKY over Hardik Pandya was a better choice, given the top-ranked India’s T20I batter could be his ‘puppet.’

Needless to say, Gambhir got a lot of credits after helping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to an elusive IPL 2024 triumph. He helped the Purple and Gold Brigade win IPL trophies twice in 2012 and 2014, and coming back as a mentor, he managed to achieve the feat yet again.

Of course, KKR’s success helped Gambhir hog the limelight again, and it made a clinical impact for him to get India’s head coach offer.
