Former Sri Lanka U-19 cricketer Dhammika Niroshana was tragically shot dead outside his residence in Kandewatte, Ambalangoda, leaving the cricketing community and the island nation in shock and mourning.

According to the local police, an unidentified man shot Niroshana while he was at home with his wife and two children. The perpetrator then fled the scene, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. A 12-bore firearm was used in the shooting.

Niroshana had a notable cricketing career, having captained the 2002 Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team. He made his debut for the Sri Lanka Under-19s against Singapore in 2000 and continued to play Under-19 Test and ODI cricket for two years. During his tenure as captain, he led the team in ten matches, securing one victory. 

He later made his senior First-class debut for the Sri Lanka Schools XI and played domestic cricket for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and Galle Cricket Club.

Primarily a bowler, Niroshana maintained a commendable bowling average of under 30 in First-class, List A, and both Under-19 formats of the game.

As far as the case is concerned, the police are conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspect and uncover the reason behind this brutal crime. 

The tragic loss of Dhammika Niroshana has cast a pall over the cricketing community, as they remember his contributions to the sport and mourn his untimely death.
