In the customary ICC 'Player of the Month', Australia's Test captain Pat Cummins, Bangladesh's ace-spinner Taijul Islam, and New Zealand's maverick all-rounder Glenn Phillips have been nominated for the December 2023 award.

Cummins, fresh from winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, guided Australia to an unassailable 0-2 lead over Pakistan, where the fast bowler starred in the Boxing Day Test, claiming 10 wickets in the match, including five in both innings, apart from winning the player of the match recognition. The Melbourne Test victory enabled Australia to earn their No.1 Test Ranking back as well. Cummins, went to pick another fifer in the SCG Test, where Australia completed 3-0 whitewash this month.

Bangladesh took on a touring New Zealand, who strangely never faced a defeat in a Test on Bangladeshi shores. However, spinner Taijul Islam had other plans, where the bowler claimed a stunning six-for in the second innings, which came after a four-fer that tilted the match in the host's favour. In the second Test, which New Zealand won Islam picked five wickets across two innings.

Known for his fast-paced and aggressive knocks, Glenn Phillips displayed his best against Bangladesh spinners in conditions alien to Kiwi batters. Phillips was firstly impressive with the ball, picking a five-wicket haul and slamming a 42 off 62, keeping the New Zealand team in the hunt, which they lost at Sylhet.

In the second Test at Dhaka, Phillips really shined and showcased his great determination, picking a crucial three-for and then digging his team out a ditch, scoring match-winning knocks of 87 and 40*.
