After suffering a Test whitewash in Australia, Pakistan travel to New Zealand for a five-T20I series, hoping to change their fortunes.

Led by first-time captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, the series will act as a preparation ground for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 co-hosted by the United States of America and West Indies.

The team landed on Monday and were seen having their first net session on Tuesday morning with players like Babar Azam, Afridi, and vice-captain Mohammed Rizwan having their practice sessions. Series holds importance for former skipper Azam, who has been undergoing a lean patch since the World Cup in India, recorded just 126 runs in the recently concluded three-Tests against Australia.

Azam, who opted to practice against left-arm spin bowling, participated in the nets, overseen by former Pakistan spinner and current spin-bowling coach Saeed Ajmal, who unfortunately got hit on the back by the batter's shot.

The 27-year-old came down the track and played an on-drive against a left-arm bowler, where after colliding with the safety nets the ball ricocheted and hit Ajmal on his back.

One of the preferred formats for Azam has been T20Is, where in 104 matches, the prolific batter has struck 3,845 runs with three centuries and 30 fifties.

The first T20I will be played in Auckland, followed by matches in Hamilton (2nd), Dunedin (3rd), and Christchurch (4th & 5th).
