The fate of India’s promising middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan for the upcoming England Test series remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he might miss out on the squad. According to Rohit Juglan from RevSportz, only one among Sarfaraz Khan and Karun Nair is likely to be selected.

As per the report, Karun Nair is favoured to join the team. This development puts Sarfaraz’s place in jeopardy despite his efforts to prepare for the challenging English conditions.

Sarfaraz's Toil To Go In Waste For Reported Snub?

Sarfaraz Khan has been working hard to get fit for the series, reportedly losing 10 kilograms through a strict diet of boiled vegetables and chicken, aiming to improve his fitness and endurance for overseas Tests.

The 27-year-old, who made his Test debut against England in 2024, has yet to play a Test match outside India. In his six Tests so far, Sarfaraz has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including a memorable 150 against New Zealand.

His aggressive right-handed batting and ability to score quickly make him a valuable asset, but recent lack of form and competition have clouded his chances.

Karun Nair In The Limelight

On the other hand, Karun Nair has been making a strong case for selection with his recent domestic heroics. After a long wait, Nair returned to form spectacularly in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, scoring 863 runs at an average of 53.93, helping Vidarbha clinch the title.

Nair also impressed in England’s County Championship in 2024, amassing 487 runs at 48.70, including two centuries. Karun’s explosive 89 off 40 balls in IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals further showcased his readiness for international cricket. His triple century against England in 2016 remains a highlight of his career, and selectors appear keen to reward his consistent domestic performances.

With the England Test series starting on June 20 at Headingley, the final squad selection will be crucial which is scheduled to be released Saturday. While Sarfaraz continues his fitness battle, Karun Nair’s recent form might give him the edge to secure a spot in the playing XI.
