India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, currently in Sri Lanka for the T20I series where the Men in Blue have already secured the series with a 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series, recently shared his admiration for former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist.

Pant, who played a crucial role in India's victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign by defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados, spoke about his idol during an interview with TimesNow.

The 26-year-old Pant has been a pivotal player for India, known for his explosive batting and sharp wicketkeeping skills. In the interview, Pant expressed his deep respect for Gilchrist, highlighting how the Australian legend has influenced his own cricketing style.

I have admired him for his fearless: Pant

"Adam Gilchrist has always been my idol. I have admired him for his fearless approach to the game, both as a wicketkeeper and a batsman. His ability to turn matches around with explosive batting and amazing wicketkeeping is something I have always looked up to. What stood out most to me was his sportsmanship and consistency; he was always a game-changer while maintaining the spirit of the game. I aim to bring that same impact and dynamism to my own cricket, hoping to follow in his footsteps", Pant said.

Following the T20I series in Sri Lanka, Pant will join the Indian squad for the ODI series, scheduled to begin on August 2. His performance and leadership will be crucial as India continues its preparation for upcoming international fixtures.
