The much-anticipated return of the T20 Mumbai League, relaunching after a six-year hiatus, has been rescheduled due to the Indian Premier League’s week-long suspension. Originally slated for May 26–June 8, the tournament will now run from June 4–10, featuring daily doubleheaders, as per a report from the Times Of India.
The delay, prompted by geopolitical concerns that halted the IPL, has also led to a venue expansion, with matches split between Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and a second location—either DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai), MCA Ground (BKC), or Brabourne Stadium (CCI).
MCA Official Confirms Format Of T20 Mumbai League
A Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official confirmed the changes, stating, “The league will now be held at two venues, with doubleheaders at both every day."
"The adjusted schedule ensures a compact, high-energy event,” added the official. Eight franchises, finalized during the May 7 player auction, will compete in the condensed window.
Coaching Heavyweights Add Star Power
The league’s revival is bolstered by notable appointments, including former India pacer Dhawal Kulkarni as mentor and coach of the Eagle Thane Strikers.
Meanwhile, Dronacharya Awardee Dinesh Lad, renowned for shaping the careers of Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur, joins as Chief Team Guide for the Triumph Knights.
The truncated format aims to maximize viewership ahead of India’s busy international calendar, offering a platform for emerging talent. With the IPL resuming on May 17, Mumbai’s cricketing summer now pivots to its homegrown league, blending nostalgia and fresh ambition under the city’s iconic stadium lights.
