Wednesday was quite different at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh. A two-day practice match between two teams, BCB Red and BCB Green, started, but the atmosphere was unusually dull. Normally, practice games attract a lot of media and photographers, but this time, hardly anyone showed up. The stadium felt strangely empty and quiet.

No Crowd During BCB Red vs BCB Green

The Bangladesh team started their training for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour earlier this week, even though it’s Eid holiday time in the country. This could be why fans didn’t show up to watch the practice sessions like they usually do.

Originally, this match was supposed to be between the national team and the ‘A’ team. But plans changed, now, the players selected for the Sri Lanka tour were just split into two sides.

What stood out even more was the lack of reporters, even fewer than during past closed-door sessions. Usually, in practice matches, coaches are highly focused and closely watch the players. But on this day, they seemed relaxed, even casually strolling along the boundary lines.

Talking about the match, Najmul Hossain Shanto opened the batting for BCB Red along with Shadman Islam. Shanto played well, scoring 40 runs from 39 balls.

Later, BCB Red declared their innings at 247 for 9 after batting first. In reply, BCB Green ended the day at 31 for 1 after 10 overs.

Mominul Haque was the top scorer for BCB Red with a solid 78 runs off 131 balls, which included 10 fours and two sixes. Notably, he built a steady partnership with Liton Das, who made 43 off 97 balls.

Among the bowlers, Ebadot Hossain stood out. Making his return to the team after almost two years, he took 3 wickets for just 28 runs in 11 overs. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan also claimed 3 wickets, giving away 75 runs in 23 overs. Nahid Rana and Hasan Murad took one wicket each.

Bangladesh will play two Test matches against Sri Lanka. The first Test starts on June 17 in Galle, and the second will begin on June 25 in Colombo. This series will also kick off Bangladesh’s campaign in the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship.
