Joe Root at number four compiled an unbeaten 99 from 191 balls to take England to 251-4 from 83 overs by stumps on Day 1 of the third Test at Lord’s. Ollie Pope chipped in with 44 crucial runs while captain Ben Stokes reached an unbeaten 39* from 102 alongside Root.
For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed both English openers within the first hour of the day. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja also picked up a wicket each, that of Harry Brook and Ollie Pope respectively.
Kusal Mendis, Nissanka Take Sri Lanka 1-0 Up In T20I Series
Sri Lanka outclassed Bangladesh by seven wickets with an over to spare in the first T20I at Pallekele to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Bangladesh batted first and conjured 154-5 from 20 overs upfront.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon (38 off 22) and unbeaten Mohammad Naim (32* off 29) top-scored for the visitors, while Sri Lankan bowlers Maheesh Theekshana (2-37), Dasun Shanaka (1-22) and Jeffrey Vandersay (1-25) picked up four wickets between them.
Chasing 155, Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka blasted 42 off just 16 balls at the top of the order. His partner Kusal Mendis compiled 73 from 51 deliveries, before Avishka Fernando and captain Charith Asalanka steered them home.
Asia Cup 2025 Future To Be Decided Later This Month
The fate of the 2025 T20 Asia Cup will reportedly be decided at an Asia Cricket Council (ACC) meeting later this month on July 25 and July 26. As reported by a Times of India editor, the meeting will be organised in Dhaka in Bangladesh, and India will be represented in the conference by BCCI bigwig Rajeev Shukla.
While India is scheduled to host the tournament, the BCCI is reportedly prepared to shift the event to UAE owing to prevailing political tensions with Pakistan.
Ireland’s Curtis Campher Takes Five In Five In T20 Trophy
Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher picked up five wickets in five successive deliveries in match 23 of the 2025 Cricket Ireland Inter-Provincial Twenty20 Trophy in Dublin. Leading Munster Reds, Campher bludgeoned 44 runs off just 24 balls to catapult his team to 188-7 from 20 overs.
The right-arm fast bowler later polished off the North-West Warriors tail with five consecutive wickets in the space of two different overs, enveloping them for 88 in 13.3 overs to secure a 100-run win after they had reached 87-6 at one stage. Campher eventually sealed exceptional figures of 5-16 in his 2.3 overs.
Trent Boult Takes MI New York To Qualifier 2 Of MLC 2025
MI New York pipped San Francisco Unicorns by two wickets in a low-scoring final over thriller in the eliminator of the MLC 2025 season. They will now face Texas Super Kings in the second qualifier of the tournament.
Boult, along with Nosthush Kenjige, picked up two wickets apiece with the new ball to restrict the Unicorns to 131 in 19.1 overs upfront. Rushil Ugarkar unfurled the spell of the innings with figures of 3-19.
Chasing 132, the MI New York slipped to 108-8 at one stage despite featuring 33 runs each from openers Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock. Overcoming Hassan Khan’s four-fer and Matthew Short’s three-wicket haul, Trent Boult at number nine punched out 22* crucial runs from 13 balls to steer MI New York home with three balls to spare.
